Friends-only post ...
Hello any readers out there ...

So yeah, I just realized that this lj could be bumping up against Real Life in a singular way. And we can't have that, really ... :/

Sorry if it's an inconvenience, but do please post here, saying why you want in on Subtilior's Assorted Natterings and Ditherings (SAND), and I'd be happy to give you the secret knock.

9 11 10 - Summary
To people who might be thinking of starting the fic, but want to know more than can be gleaned from the summary ...

I'm attached to that vague summary at AO3 for two reasons. First, and relatively inconsequential, is just nostalgia + my own amusement: when posting there, and when the system told me: is too long, pls sum up, I had no idea what to write (summaries tend to be my bête noire.) So I copied and pasted the last few lines of the prologue - and I still like them.

The second is that I wanted the reader to be in the same position as Charles at the fic's beginning: dropped into a new environment, with little to no idea of what's going on - and with danger getting revealed ... slowly. Goodness knows there's quite a bit more plot to go at this point, though, so if you are not sure whether to invest a lot of your time starting a really long fic, then perhaps the following will help.

Advent ...
Well. Long time no write! Hello everyone ...

Yesterday marked the start of Advent, the Christian church season that prepares for Christmas. Some of my fave music @ work; some of the most fun things to do all year (CHOKLIT INNA CALENDAR; WOO); and ... well. I love the cold and snow, so moving closer and closer to the solstice always makes me happy.

It's interesting. About this time last year, I was massively bitten by the last Labyrinth plot bunny of my own to possess me completely. It was "Advent," (appropriate title iz appropriate!) Lemme link to it again - ah, shameless self-plugging. (and goodness, that sounds dirty.)

"Advent"

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6558596/1/Advent

Here is the piece of music that put me in the mood for that fic. An angular modernist setting of a medieval text: 'Jerusalem rejos for joy' - but I suppose that the title is technically "Illuminare, Jerusalem."

:) Other creative endeavors in my life. I've been beta-ing Knifeedge's (awesome awesome awesome Spuffy fic) "Dust." Here 'tis:

"Dust"

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6958651/1/DUST

Shed some love & reviewage upon her!

I did not write for the Granger/Snape fic exchange, this year - did some art instead. Unlike last year, when I did a cracked-out "Pride and Prejudice" 'lost in a book' fill! Here 'tis. I'm still rather chuffed about it.

"The Apothecary's Assistant; or: Witch Austen's Revenge"

http://archiveofourown.org/works/252405/chapters/391608

That last is on Archive of Our Own. I've been gradually posting my fics there, only because I enjoy their ad-free space, and their premise. [ETA: two types of premises, I suppose. ba-dum-THUD!] What's gotten me a bit down, recently, has been the failure of the "import word document" feature to work, connected to the Rich Text Editor. I sit and sigh, staring at the screen while trying to upload ... and then I try and cobble together the correct html from ff.net's editor feature. Only, of course, because coding all of my faaaaavorite italics by hand = a hair-raising trek to the top of Mt. DO NOT WANT.

And because, erm.

*cough*

I may have been cheating on my OTP J/S ... with a slash pairing? Hope that's cool. I suppose one may have four OTPs, yes? het, slash, femmeslash, and 'defies-categorization'.

Thing is, this is a kind of mammoth darkfic "X-Men First Class" AU. Nuclear war and captivity and dubcon - oh my! Be warned for those if you click through - and if you have any passing interest in it, I'd be curious to know what you think.

"Nine Eleven Ten"

http://archiveofourown.org/works/252402/chapters/391601

Cause yeah, I'm in for the long haul, I guess.

Oh. And: ... itmayalsobe200Kwordssofar.

Whoooooooops.

*flees*

ETA: Hi to XMFC peeps! Welcome to my (alternately taciturn and blah-blah-BLAH-ful) LJ!

So, yeah ...
ahoy hoy, folkes. I ym ywrittin in ye mocke olde Anglys/Scots/whatever, because I am running through (again and again) the weird (wyrd?) text of a carol I get to sing a lot today. Ye firste verse:

Jerusalem rejos for joy:
Jesus, the sterne of most bewte
In thee is rissin as richtous roy,
Fro dirknes to illumyne thee.
With glorius sound of angell gle
Thy prince is borne in Baithlem
Quhilk sall the mak or thraldome fre.
Illuminare, Jerusalem.

It doesn't help that the composer's favorite interval is ... ye Tritone. Blah! Here - you can hear the crazy, if you copy'n'paste. (Ye linke doesnt werke well).

Yeah, so I'm a dumb cluck.
A repost. If you took the poll, pls take again? pls pls?

Ahoy hoy, interwebs. So I gotta get something down on (e-)paper for the Labyfic Winterfest ... and I have a few ideas, but no sense of which one to pick!

So: which would you prefer?

Poll #1653879 Labyfic Winterfest!

Pick a genre, any genre ...

Angst - with evil!Jareth
3(15.8%)
Angst - unrequited love/the road not taken
2(10.5%)
Drama - with evil!Jareth
6(31.6%)
Drama - no evil, just a good plot. Maybe a mystery?
2(10.5%)
Comedy/Farce - fluffy
5(26.3%)
Comedy/Farce - bitchy
0(0.0%)
Other (nb: please explain in comments!)
1(5.3%)
10:45 am
PS
Also, for crying out loud. In the previous poll, please know that whichever I pick, I'll go w/ the majority of what people like. i.e.: I didn't restrict all youse to just one answer, of all the possibilities. Genius at wrok.

ETA: FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. Polling cannot be restricted to one answer. Or at least, I can't seem to do so. LJ, WHY do you HATE ME SO?! *hits head against monitor*

Damn, Subtilior, what is up with you and evil!Jareth?!

Word.
4(14.3%)
Huh?
0(0.0%)
So what? *I* like it.
12(42.9%)
Well, you gotta dance with the muse that brung ya.

For the Labyfic drabble challenge, "Frost"
I couldn't resist this one. :)
.
.
.
.
FROST
.
.
His voice wakes her, when she wanted only to sleep, wrapped warm with frost.

“Sarah …”

His magic flickers in her blurred vision. (No …)

“Slow cold freezes time – or slow time freezes the world – but I have found you …” His breath, slightly less cold, on her eyelids, mouth.

“How foolish, to fly away ...” A warmer breath. “You will not do it again.” She feels her lips crack. “Will you.”

And when he kisses her, Sarah remembers. The ice on her eyes melts, runs warm down her face.

Cold and frost are gentle. The Goblin King: less so.

And it's a go!
Yay! "Shards of a Dream" is now up; you may find it off the pg. below.

www.fanfiction.net/~subtilior

The creative juices are flowing! This is lovely (*knock on wood*) b/c it means that painstaking Real Life project o' Doom is going OK, too.

I decided to keep some of the ending changes, for SoaD, and to prune some others. Anyway. Enjoy!

Well, a-well - that's all, for Teh Singing. *clears throat* *coughs* ... I maintain that one service's worth of incense, at this gig, is just about on the level of smoking two packs, unfiltered. :)
This isn't my group, obviously, but here's one of the works we sang last night and this morning:

Dum Transisset Sabbatum by John Taverner (1490-1545), sung above by the Tallis Scholars.

Not sure how much I like Teh Montage-ing ... it undercuts the effect of the music that the youtuber actually picked up on; a culmination in the final "alleluya". That music, though ... If I were a cat, I'd be purring.

The week lies before me - LE SIGH. I do not want it to begin. So, in the spirit of sinful indulgence (I should be reading essays), here is "Shards of a Dream" - part 2.

Ugh! and Fic-ness!
Hi all! Not to bitch or anything, but MY LIFE = grrrrARRRRRGH! I'm working on a Huge Academic Project of Doom - and by "working," I mean, "spinning my wheels." Also, I've had four rehearsals and three church services already this week, and I have four and three more (respectively) to go. And today's is going to be Hella Long.

[/emo bitching]

If I clap my paws on a recording device of some sort, maybe I'll try & share some of the music with y'all. Because it's pretty.

Anyway, Friday's been Fanday for quite some time, so here's the first chunk of a longer one-shot. Don't you hate it when your PWP acquires a plot? Lousy plot bunnies.

Read on!
